EXPERTISE trust quality MAKING THE DIFFERENCE INNOVATIVE QUALITY, ASSURANCE, TRACEABILITY & SUSTAINABILITY FOR GRAINS AND FOOD GMO TESTING © SGS Group Management SA – 2019 – All rights reserved – SGS is a registered trademark of SGS Group Management SA EXCELLENCE Canada enjoys an outstanding global reputation for the supply of top-quality grains and food. Canadian producers serving domestic and international markets need to be able to demonstrate the quality of grains and food, its GMO status to clients and the supply chain. As commercial planting of GMO crops extends around the world, SGS has developed highly accurate and efficient GMO testing to ensure national and international controls are met, ensuring growers’ ability to trade with countries specifying GMO-free products. Many countries prohibit the use of GMO in food products. From local bakery businesses to global snack brands, the grains used as raw ingredients need to comply with local GMO regulations. Our genomics testing laboratory can test and certify your grain and food products. SGS SERVICES We use DNA-based qualitative and quantitative PCR testing to determine GMO levels in grains, food and feed products. Samples are tested with Real- Time PCR using TaqMan technology for specific GMO events or broader promoters, terminators, constructs used in several GMO events. GMO TESTING We deliver three types of testing: • Qualitative testing – detects the presence of GMO material, or confirms its absence (detected/not detected (ND)) • Quantitative testing – reports the amount of GMO material found as: • A percentage • < 0.1%, or • ND (not detected) • Semi-quantitative testing – available depending on the product We test a broad range of grains and end products, such as: • Flax • Canola • Corn • Soybean • Alfalfa • Wheat • Processed products (such as finished bakery and snack products) QUALITY TESTING All grain needs to be proven safe and of good quality when it enters the bakery and snack food supply chain. We offer a range of quality testing services, for parameters including: • Grain grading • Falling number • Moisture estimation • Protein estimation • Mycotoxin quantification ISO/IEC 17025 ACCREDITATION SGS’s Saskatoon Genomics lab has ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for corn, soybean, canola, wheat and flax GMO testing. As per ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, our laboratory regularly participates in proficiency testing programs organized by USDA-GIPSA (corn and soybean), ISTA (canola), Canadian Grain Commission (Flax), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (wheat).
