Pet Food Trade Mission to Taiwan, November 25-26, 2019 Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei (CTOT) invite you to showcase your pet food products at an outgoing mission to Taiwan on November 25-26, 2019. Taiwan Pet Food Market Brief: Taiwan’s pet food and related products market is estimated around CAD2.1B. In 2018, Taiwan’s total pet food imports reached a record high of over CAD241.5 million, a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8.38 % since 2013. Canada ranked 4th of exporting countries with total exports amounting to CAD21.2M, accounting for 8.8% of Taiwan’s total imports of pet foods. The increased trend of pet food imports is expected to continue over the next few years as pet ownership increases. Demand for high quality and natural pet food is growing. Bilateral agreement between Canada and Taiwan finalized in 2017: In 2017, Canada became the first country to finalize systemic approval for pet foods with Taiwan. The finalization of this bilateral agreement eliminates the requirement for an on-site inspection by Taiwanese authorities and Canadian pet food establishments approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will now be eligible to export pet food containing animal ingredients to Taiwan. Pet food products that do NOT contain animal ingredients and canned pet food that do not contain bovine ingredients are not subject to the above-mentioned pre-approval by CFIA. Joining this mission to Taiwan is an excellent way to capitalize on the opportunity generated as a result of the finalization of the bilateral agreement. *Please note that this mission aims to provide targeted services to the Canadian exporters with products or brands which are NOT currently being represented or sold in the Taiwan market. Companies with OEM or ODM businesses which are not limited to specific brands are welcome to register! Draft schedule for the mission in Taiwan: November 25: Market Briefing, store tour and site visit November 26: Canadian pet food seminar, networking lunch and pre-arranged B2B While there is NO participation fee to sign up for the above program, Canadian companies will be responsible for all other costs including flights, accommodation, meal and sample-shipping etc. It is recommended that you contact your industry association or Provincial Government representatives to determine whether your company may be eligible for financial assistance and/or logistical support.
