ESC Multi-Family Consortium Minutes from December 9, 2019 The meeting was called to order at 2:02 Eastern time. Attendance: NW Natural John Frankel NW Natural Samantha Moore ONE Gas Ryan Browning ONE Gas Emily Reh Piedmont Natural Gas Carl Peterson Spire Patti Reardon Next TMAF: Barb let everyone know that the next TMAF is scheduled and registration is open! We will kick off the 2020 TMAF season in Phoenix, AZ, from March 3rd – 5th. We have secured a block of rooms for this event but these rooms do go quickly. It’s always better to have a room in the hotel where the meeting is held. Additional info, including the agenda, can be found on the ESC site by following this link: https://www.energysolutionscenter.org/events/technology_market_assessment_forum.aspx Looking for Case Studies: Barb wanted to remind everyone that each member company is entitled to have one case study produced through the consortium. The last case study we did was for Chesapeake Utilities in 2017. It really is a simple process. We use a writer who handles everything over the phone. There is some paperwork that needs to be completed and we will ask the utility to submit pictures for the case study but it is very simple. If you have completed a multifamily project that you think would make a great case study just send me an email and I will get the process started. Success and Not-so-Successful Stories: Calling all members who want to share their stories of serving multifamily projects – whether it was a 10 or a 1. Even those “not so successful” stories can result in a learning moment for members. Anyone who wants to present at a TMAF or do a webinar during one of our monthly calls should contact Barb and we will get you on the agenda. Coming Attractions in 2020: Barb asked the members if there were any topics they were specifically interested in learning more about during 2020. If so, let Barb know and she will work on lining up a speaker. Barb already has on her list to get a speaker on CHP in multifamily. Emily Reh, ONE Gas, would like to have an architect (or a panel of architects) speak on how difficult it is to switch plans from electric to natural gas. What is involved? Why is it so difficult? How costly is it? She also mentioned that it would be interesting to have developers speak on installing gas versus electric. What are the cost drivers? With regard to having an architect or a panel of architects speak, Patti Reardon, Spire, mentioned that her colleagues Tom Shultz and Steve Roberson have worked to develop a program for architects. She offered to speak with Tom and Steve and see if we could schedule them to present to the group. Barb also reminded members that the Vertical Subdivision Guide has been revised and updated; and corresponding PowerPoint presentations have been created to coincide with the guide. The PowerPoints are a great length for a Lunch n Learn setting for architects and engineers. They are all posted on the ESC site under the Multifamily Consortium.
